The Haddonfield Council of Churches continues to host their annual Lenten Preaching and Soup Lunch series each Tuesday during Lent from March 7 to April 11 at Grace Episcopal Church, 19 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield, beginning at noon. Following the 30 minute preaching service provided by a different Haddonfield pastor each week participants are invited to enjoy a soup lunch in Grace Church’s Fellowship Hall.
This year, the theme is based on Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s book, “The Cost of Discipleship.” Using the Sermon on the Mount as his text, Bonhoeffer challenges us to think about what it means to be a Christian, a disciple and ethical demands of being a follower of Jesus Christ. His book was written in the 1930’s during the rise of the Nazi movement in Germany. It has a timeless quality and will provide us with deep reflection on what it means to be a Christian today in our world. Bonhoeffer’s book speaks about grace, the costs for following Christ and more. The topics for each Tuesday’s sermons are as follows:
|March 7||Grace & Discipleship||Matthew 4:12-22|
|March 14||Sermon on the Mount||Matthew 5:1-12|
|March 21||Hidden Character of the Christian Life||Matthew 6:1-18|
|March 28||The Separation of the Disciple Community||Matthew 7:1-12|
|April 4||The Messengers||Matthew 9:35-38|
|April 11||The Church of Jesus Christ & Life of Discipleship|
