Sunday School:

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the ABCs of Lent. It was a great success!

Our last Sunday of Virtual Sunday School will be May 23rd, please enjoy your summer! We will continue with Virtual Sunday School in the fall, even if we are back in Sunday School in person. This will take place weekly at 9:30AM, and it will last about 15 minutes, so your child can still attend Sunday School, even if they have sports during normal Sunday School times.

Oasis:

Due to the busy schedules of members attending and the inability to meet in person, Oasis is done for the summer. I look forward to having meetings again in the fall.

Please keep the following dates in mind while making plans:

  • June 20th we will be celebrating our Senior Class at both 8:00 & 10:30 services. One of our seniors, Sophia Howard, will be preaching at both services.
  • July 12th to 16th we will be having a Local Mission Trip. All of the details are not set yet, but we will be staying in the immediate area and your child will be coming home every evening. Your child does not have to attend every day. This will be open to all Senior High Youth.

Vacation Bible School:

Due to the uncertainty of a vaccine for younger kids, we will be doing Vacation Bible School Virtually again. The program is called “On Earth as in Heaven”. The program will be going “LIVE” on July 26th and you can have access to it at any time. Our program will include, craft, music and Bible Time. Like last year, this is open to anyone with a child from 3 year olds to 5th grade. Please email me at LCOSJAIME@GMAIL.COM, if you are interested.

So when I was sitting down to write this article, I was really struggling on what to write about. I bounced back and forth with a few ideas, but I decided to talk about how, even though Virtual Sunday School will end on May 23rd for the summer, you can still teach your child at home the stories in the Bible. I am sure you read that and thought, “Oh Jaime, that’s why we have you! To teach our kids more about the stories of the Bible!” But actually this is a team game! Unfortunately, with everyone’s busy schedules there are times that I may not see your child for a few weeks or a few months. So I am going to tell you some strategies that I use to take these stories and put them on a child’s level.

Some stories may be easier than others to talk about with your child because you either know them or because they just make sense. But some, are just plain hard to talk to your child about. One of the greatest resources I use is our Sparkhouse Bibles. It helps put the lessons we hear in worship on a child’s level. If that is not an option for you, if your child has not received their First Bible from church, I invite you to look at that Bible. I know when things are a little crazy at home, you may think you might not have time to read the Bible or attend worship. I understand, life is crazy busy and starting to get busier now that things are starting to open up again. But I invite your family to have Bible time. Pick about twenty minutes out of your week to be your Family Bible Time. If anyone is interested, starting in June, I can send a weekly Bible lesson out to families. Please email me at LCOSJAIME@GMAIL.COM, if you would like this. I will add a video of me reading the story of the week from the Sparkhouse Bibles. During this time, you can pray for each other and talk about the Bible story of the week. I look forward to this opportunity for the summer. Please let me know if you are interested or how I can help you make this a possibility in your home. I cannot wait until the Fall when we can have Rally Sunday! Please keep an eye out for information about Virtual Vacation Bible. It will be taking place from July 26th to 31st.

I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable summer!
Jaime
