The early Christians of the apostle Paul’s time took care of each other. They were dependent on the faithful, regular giving of each community member, not only for the health of their fledgling home-based churches, but also for the well-being of each person. In fact, they gave their all. Day-to-day survival depended on it.
These days many things have changed about how the Christian community takes care of its members, but the need for regular giving has not. For most of us our personal daily survival may not depend on the giving of fellow church members, but the financial health of Our Savior does. Regular giving during the summer allows planning and programs to continue, bills to be paid, and fall spending to be assured. Plus, it provides resources to help those whose day-to-day summer survival really does depend on the church. Even in our prosperous part of Camden County, the hungry and homeless show up at Our Savior’s door regularly. Please help make sure the resources to help them are available.
Giving regularly throughout the summer takes the stress off your fall budget, and it will help Our Savior meet our goal of being able to give more than the 5% we pledged for this year to the ELCA’S NJ Synod Mission Support. Help us grow that percentage so that we’re back up to the 10% that the Haddonfield Lutheran Church of Our Savior has always offered. Thank you!
1 Corinthians 16:2
Paul wrote, “On the first day of every week, each of you is to put aside and save whatever extra you earn.”
